Type 2 Diabetes – Immediate Release or Extended Release Anti-Diabetic Drugs?

Researchers at the University of Pavia in Pavia, Italy, have found the drug metformin extended release (XR) formula to be more efficient at controlling Type 2 diabetes than the drug metformin immediate release (IR) formula. In a study reported on in May of 2017 in the journal Drug Design and Developmental Therapy, two hundred and fifty-three people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes had HbA1c levels between 7.0 percent and 8.5 percent (poor control). For six months these Type 2 diabetics were divided into two groups and received either 1,000 to 3000 mg of metformin IR, or 500 to 1500 mg of metformin XR per day.

Type 2 Diabetes – The Effect of High Thyroid-Stimulating Hormones on Small Blood Vessels

The thyroid gland is located in the neck and is responsible for making and releasing particular thyroid hormones. These hormones make it possible to burn energy for movement and heat. The Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is released by the pituitary gland situated at the base of the brain. It tells the thyroid gland when to make thyroid hormone. When the thyroid gland is sluggish, the pituitary produces more TSH to stimulate the thyroid to produce enough hormone. When elevated TSH is found, the sufferer is treated with thyroid hormones.

Type 2 Diabetes – Having PreEclampsia Raises the Risk of Developing Gestational Diabetes

For more than a decade preeclampsia and Gestational diabetes which is also known as diabetes of pregnancy, have been diagnosed together in sufficient numbers of women to make scientists suspect a relationship exists between the two. Preeclampsia is a condition in which pregnant women develop high blood pressure, and lose protein in their urine. Often they suffer swelling in their ankles, feet, and hands, as well as having abnormally sensitive reflexes. If not dealt with, the condition can progress on to eclampsia, or convulsions, endangering the lives of both the mother and child.
